Madison Family Dentistry – Root Canal Treatment

Family Dentistry or Root Canal Treatment is commonly known as one of the most feared and unpleasant of dental treatments. At Drs. Sam Romano, DMD, MAGD or Wonseok (Woody) Jang, DDS, MDS‘s dental practice, you won’t have to worry about anything. We understand your fear and work around it to provide you with a pleasant experience each session.

A root canal problem can be a very serious issue if not treated as it may cause further implications so to treat it as soon as possible is a must. An endodontic treatment is needed when there is pulp inflammation which is usually caused by a number of factors, such as:

  • Serious tooth decay
  • Cracked or chipped tooth
  • Tooth injury

If left untreated, the inflammation or infection can cause a great deal of pain and can possibly lead to an abscess.

How does Madison Family Dentistry Work?

Root Canal treatment is a process that involves the removal of the inner layer of pulp from within the tooth, which has become infected by the bacteria and disease, present within the mouth. The pulp provides the tooth from your blood vessels. This is also where the nerves are located and also the sensitive tissue.

To help with the efficient extraction of the root canal, a small hole is drilled into your tooth so that extraction and cleaning can take place. When this has taken place, the tooth is then re-shaped and the void inside the tooth is then filled to leave a full tooth.

Root Canal FAQ

Q: While biting hard food I broke one of my teeth. What should I do?

A: If you are not in any pain then ring your dentist as soon as possible and make an appointment, but try and keep the tooth as clean as possible and avoid biting hard on that tooth. If you have pain, then you will need to go to your dentist immediately as an emergency.

Q: My tooth was knocked out, how soon should I see a dentist?

A: Immediately. Getting to a dentist within 30 minutes can make the difference between saving and losing a tooth.:

  • Immediately call us for an emergency appointment.
  • Handle the tooth by the crown, not the root. Touching the root (the part of the tooth below the gum) can damage cells necessary for bone reattachment.
  • Gently rinse the tooth in water to remove dirt. Do not scrub.
  • Place the clean tooth in your mouth between the cheek and the gum to keep it moist.
  • It is important not to let the tooth dry out.
  • If it is not possible to store the tooth in the mouth of the injured person, wrap the tooth in a clean cloth or gauze and immerse in milk.
